Description

Everybody! E-e-e-everybody!
Everybody! E-e-e-everybody!
Everybody! E-e-e-everybody!
Revamped for the nineties!
So much more exciting!
Pointy elbows and lots of lightning!
Edgy and angry, so zesty and tangy!
There's new demographics
When nobody asked for it!
Everybody! E-e-e-everybody!
Right now!

That about sums up Stealth Voltron. I know a lot of people hate on him, but I don’t mind him. I think, like Venus on the Next Mutation, as the new kid on the block, Stealth kind of draws a lot of the heat for the entire show. That’s not to say he was perfect, though. No … not perfect.

I got into this guy late and I’ve barely seen any of the 3rd Dimension show. Classic Voltron is present in name only, with all his weapons (save for the Blazing Sword) being completely changed for the new show. Eventually they gave the guy a Stealth mode where Voltron would go into this claw thing and emerge as Stealth Voltron. I always find it off when robots “magically” change … I know Voltron has always been part magical, but it’s always bugged me. Even his origin has him “magically” become five separate lions when any normal robot would just explode!

So, anyhow, that’s Stealth. He has a stealth mode and an “Energy Sword” and an “Energy Shield”. The lions actually have MANES. Although they’re very, VERY stylized. I kind of dig the overall design of Stealth, but the toy is very cheaply made. It sports the same articulation in robot mode as the original Voltron … except it was made 10 years later! The plastic is also brittle and it’ll shatter if you drop it. Do don’t. Also, while I do like the overall look of the guy I have to admit, the giant robot doesn’t look very … stealthy. Just too buff! I think too much attention was paid to the individual lions at the expense of the combined robot. Which is too bad, since the design ideas seem solid.

I feel that Stealth could work in the Voltron universe if it was it’s own robot - like Vehicle Voltron - instead of a powered up mode.

Since this guy is a non-boxy robot, I think he turned out better than the Voltrons so far. Still, the legs didn’t turn out right from how I envisioned them. They’re hard to make look cool. They were too far drawn to change, so they are what they are. Just think of him as turning about to face an opponent in space.

The lions look more like Wolves.
